Day of the Seafarer 2019

Updated: Oct 22, 2019

This year, as always, the annual Day of the Seafarer (DotS) will be celebrated on 25 June.

The Day of the Seafarer is an opportunity to say thank you to all seafarers.

The theme for DotS 2019 is “I am onboard with gender equality” recognizing the increased role and presence of women in the shipping industry and onboard ship and that they are equal partners.

“It is an opportunity to highlight opportunities for women, as well as the contributions they are already making in a wide range of maritime careers and professions, but the focus will be very firmly on one aspect of that community — seafarers.” IMO said.

Being out of sight on the oceans and in the ports of the world only contributes to their sense of isolation and to know others are grateful and thinking of them can give them the hope and encouragement they need.

#IamOnBoard is 2019 social media hashtag chosen by IMO.

Also IMO created a interactive virtual wall for the campaign participant's responses and what they would do ideas to support gender equality in maritime sector.
